The energy sector is beginning to change, with renewable source earning increasing space in Brazil and abroad. Attentive to the trends and Brazil’s potential in this area, Odebrecht has been investing in the segment since 2007 – the year it created Odebrecht Agroindustrial.
The company was founded with the goal of achieving leadership in the global sugar-energy sector. Through the production of ethanol, electric energy and sugar, it supplies the Brazilian market with clean energy.
The Odebrecht Agroindustrial business model is based on the development of production centers that combine technology and scale, combining competitiveness with sustainability.
After purchasing the Alcídia Unit (Teodoro Sampaio, São Paulo), and the Eldorado Unit (Rio Brilhante, Mato Grosso do Sul), Odebrecht Agroindustrial consolidated its presence in the market by inaugurating seven greenfield projects: the Conquista do Pontal Unit (Mirante do Paranapanema, São Paulo), Santa Luzia Unit (Nova Alvorada do Sul, Mato Grosso do Sul), Rio Claro Unit (Caçu, Goiás), Morro Vermelho Unit (Mineiros, Goiás), Alto Taquari Unit (Mato Grosso), Costa Rica Unit (Costa Rica, Mato Grosso do Sul) and Água Emendada Unit (Perolândia, Goiás).
In February 2010, Odebrecht Agroindustrial announced the combination of assets with the Brazilian Renewable Energy Company (BRENCO), producing a global leader in the production of bioenergy made from sugarcane.
Odebrecht Agroindustrial has nine production units, and in 2015, it will have the installed capacity to process 40 million tons of sugarcane and produce 3 billion liters of ethanol and 2,700 GWh of electric energy.
By integrating its production, sale and logistics activities, Odebrecht Agroindustrial has become an innovative force in this market. The company works with everything from the cultivation of 100% mechanized sugarcane, to the preparation of the soil and choice of adequate varieties, and finally the production, sale and delivery of the products.
