Inova BH Inaugurates First School in Minas Gerais
The first Municipal Preschool Unit (UMEI) constructed by Inova BH, an Odebrecht Properties company, was inaugurated by the Belo Horizonte Municipal Government on September 21. The institution has the capacity to receive approximately 400 children ages 0 to 6. An additional four units will be delivered by the end of 2013. All of the 37 institutions – including the UMEIS and EMEFs (Municipal Elementary Schools), will be ready by the start of the 2015 school year.
This is the first education unit built in Brazil through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). In addition to the construction work, completed by Odebrecht Infrastructure, Inova BH will be responsible for implementing and operating non-educational services during the 20-year period of the concession, together with services such as the maintenance of electrical and hydraulic installations, security, cleaning, environmental sustainability and furniture. The units will respect the regulations of the Brazilian Ministry of Education, Brazilian Association of Technical Standards and the Belo Horizonte Municipal Department of Education.
The Belo Horizonte City Government works through the Municipal Department of Education to serve more than 46,000 children – 23,000 at the UMEIS and municipal schools and another 23,000 at the partnering network. The PPP will benefit nearly 20,000 students in all regions of the city, including 14,000 at the preschool and 4,800 at the elementary level.
