Recognition of CultureCultural Contributions

For the past half century, the Organization has contributed to Brazil’s culture and that of other countries by sponsoring the production and launch of cultural editions. Artists and researchers receive support to develop projects that recover communities’ historic and artistic heritage. The result is a collection rich in scope and heterogeneity, with over 200 titles distributed between libraries and public and private entities.
Homenagem à Bahia Antiga (“Tribute to Old Bahia”), launched in 1959, was the first book of a practice that would become systematic starting in 1978. Since then, the Organization has sponsored at least one work each year. The historian and art critic José Valladares (1971-1959) gathered in his book photos and annotations that show the diversity of Salvador’s old mansions and historic buildings.
The Odebrecht Cultural Editions are grouped into four main themes: Arts, Cities and Regions, History and Partnerships. It is actually, however, a benchmark and quite free division. That is why certain publications are classified within more than one theme.
