Cultural ContributionsBraskem Award

Talent and inspiration are not always enough for artists from the areas of music, literature, fine arts and film to make it in the arts scene. In Bahia, the Braskem Culture and Arts Award serves as the support that many of these professionals lack.

Since 1996, the contest has selected the productions of new artists through specialized judging committees, and awards them with sponsorship to launch their works. Each edition of the award generates two new CDs, two painting exhibits, three books and a short film. This initiative serves to promote the emergence of new artistic talents.

Ernst Widmer and the Teaching of Musical Composition in Bahia [1999]

A resident of Bahia since 1954, Ernst Widmer – Swiss composer, coordinator, pianist and educator who has earned worldwide fame – had decisive influence on the development of Brazilian contemporary music. In Ernst Widmer e o Ensino da Composição Musical na Bahia, published with the support of the Bahia State Government and the Federal University of Bahia (UFBa), Paulo Costa Lima analyzes Widmer's musical composition teaching. He uses the writings and compositions of the artist himself as a base, together with testimonials by his former students.
