On September 5, the United Arab Emirates National Geographic channel debuted the show Megastructures – Abu Dhabi Super Tunnel. The documentary, which took two years to produce, reveals the technical challenges faced during the construction of the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Program (STEP), a project that is expanding the basic sanitation network in the city of Abu Dhabi.

The work is being undertaken by Odebrecht Engineering & Construction International - Infrastructure, responsible for the construction, material supply and installation of the electro-mechanical equipment for the pump station, considered the most complex part of the project.

STEP was built to expand the city's sanitation network and should serve some 3 million residents by 2032. The project includes the construction of 41 kilometers of sewage tunnel and 43 km of connections from the existing system to the new tunnel and pump station, considered the world's deepest. The improvements will double the wastewater treatment capacity in the city.
