Heavy vehicle traffic in the vicinity of State Road 36 and Northwest 87th Avenue in Miami, Florida, required creativity and innovation by the Odebrecht Construction USA teams in charge of revitalizing these highways. In order to ensure their members’ safety, the signaling teams adopted a specific lighting: lighted circles fitted around their hardhats.

“Some drivers even stop and inquire from our team ‘what is that light on your head?’ This shows that they pay more attention to this kind of signaling than to others that are usual in this type of roadworks,” explained Dwayne Jeffery, in charge Health, Occupational Safety and Sustainability. To him, the idea proved to be effective for the safety of workers on the project, especially at night.

Using this kind of lighting started with the traffic maintenance team and subsequently covered the signaling team. In all, 40 project team members employ this kind of equipment. The device is from the Illumagear company and can be noted from 400 meters away by drivers, according to the manufacturer.

State Road 36 and Northwest 87th Avenue link the city to the Port of Miami, besides being crossroads close to the city’s international airport. In addition to this circle of light, Odebrecht adopts other means of warning drivers, by means of light signaling and blocking crossings.
