The Ethylene XXI Petrochemical Complex in Mexico, and the Nacala International Airport in Mozambique, both built by Odebrecht in Mexico and Mozambique, respectively, received two Awards of Merit on October 11 from the U.S. magazine Engineering News-Record (ENR), one of the world's main engineering publications. In 2016, the magazine selected 23 projects in 15 countries.
The ceremony took place in New York during the ENR 4th Annual Global Best Project Awards. The decision considered factors such as innovations, challenges, design and the cultural diversity of the teams.
Ethylene XXI has already received other international awards. In 2015, it won the DuPont Global Safety Award with the highest score in history. In May of this year, it was invited by IFC - International Finance Corporation to participate in its annual event in Washington, the IFC Sustainability Exchange. The event featured the presentation of the people management model used in the project, which was uninterrupted, and involved more than 17,000 members of 29 nationalities at the peak of the construction.
The Nacala Airport received the 2015-2016 African Property Awards in the category of Public Service Architecture. The award is part of the already well-established International Property Awards and recognizes excellence in the construction industry on a global level
