On June 19-23 Barcelona, Spain, hosted the 22nd. International Congress on Large Dams, organized by the ICOLD - International Commission on Large Dams. Over 1,300 representatives from 65 countries attended the congress. Odebrecht, together with Stucky, a Switzerland's engineering company were selected to make a presentation to the assembly on the Congress' "subject 1": slashing time and costs in dam design and construction. The presentation rendered the new construction method of rolled concrete double curvature arch dams (STOD), which was applied at the Picada Hydroelectric Project in Minas Gerais. The Congress focused on dam safety, upstream impacts and the reassessment of design and construction standards vis-à-vis climatic changes that is presently bearing upon the planet. Odebrecht and Stucky assembled a stand where both companies' performances in the dam area could be seen. Attended the congress senior officers from both companies, Odebrecht Superintendent Director for the Energy Area Henrique Valladares, Stucky CEO Marc Balissat, senior officers from Furnas Centrais Elétricas and Cemig, representatives from the Brazilian Committee on Large Dams, international consultants and other personalities in this field.
