The hydroelectric Plant Irapé formally opened on June 8th. Built by the joint venture formed with Andrade Gutierrez, Odebrecht, Hotchtief and Ivaí, this plant is located at the Jequitinhonha Valley region in Minas Gerais state. Minas Gerais Governor Aecio Neves attended the opening ceremony with former Brazil's President Itamar Franco, J.V. officials and guests. The three-turbine electric plant generates 360 MW of electricity and, at 208 meters height, boasts Latin America's tallest dam. Besides the plant the project also completed the construction of 34 kilometers of access roadways and a 100-meter-long bridge.
