Promoted in 11 countries, the Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development is focused on recognizing and encouraging university students to think creatively about sustainable solutions for engineering.
Odebrecht understands that the challenge for sustainable development is to create production models that meet today's needs without compromising future generations. It also believes that encouraging university students and professors helps promote the emergence of innovative projects.
Instituted in Brazil in 2008, the award is also promoted in Angola, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, United States, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic and Venezuela. The proposal is to generate knowledge and disseminate new ideas among members of the academic community and society in general.
In 2015, 670 projects were signed up in the different countries, involving 2.493 students and 674 professors from 420 universities.
